Opening 27th March/ Prejudices without pride

The films that opened (past tense as I fell a little behind) on 27th March (International day of Theatre, by the way) in Zaragoza are:

1. Ben X: Weird movie it seems. I had never heard of it. Nothing in it says: "Go to the movies" in a sort of ghostly voice so... Not seeing it.

2. Confessions of a shopaholic: I'll probably like this movie but it kills me to spend money when all I'm going to do is bitching about dubbing. Probably not seeing it.

3. The secret life of bees: This has "I'll make you cry" written all over it. I love that in a movie. If I don't cry I'll probably hate this. Seeing it.

4. Mentiras y gordas: This is a Spanish film where they have chosen the worst actors from the worst Spanish TV series. The plot deals with drugs and love. Ehem... Not seeing it.

5. Retorno a Hansala: Film about emigration/inmigration. Got nominated to three Goyas. Anyway I don't feel called. Not seeing it.

6. Street Fighter: The legend of Chun-Li: Why something like this opens here and not The flight of the red balloon or Un conte de Nöel? It feels so unfair to people who expect something other than blood and Kristin Kreuk's boobs from a movie. Not seeing it.

7. Traitor: I tend to dislike films where guns are so publicly dispalyed. Gives to me a sense of "Stallone is behind this" that I don't like a bit. Not seeing it.

Not a very good weekend...

Doubling the fun

I'll admit I didn't totally understand Duplicity. I'm still quite unsure about some plot points. Anyway it's a gift watching these two actors doing their thing. Great supporting actors complement a very funny (though complicated) film.

Los Abrazos Rotos

Deivith Coast has something to say about Los Abrazos Rotos

http://clarinetserenades.blogspot.com/2009/03/la-noche-con-almodovar-pt5.html

I agree completely with him though I'd say more nice things about Pé. She's great. As Lluís, as Blanca, as Jose Luis, as Rubén, as Tamar, as Lola (ese melón... mejor no abrirlo), as Carmen, as Ángela, as Chus, as Rossy, as Mariola, as Asier (?)...

Perfect movie.

What Have I Done...

... to deserve not having watched this movie for so long?

Hilarious!!!!

Los abrazos rotos: Second impressions

Loved it. I'm seeing it again so my ideas will be clearer.
Masterpiece!

Los abrazos rotos: First impressions

Oh my God!

Opening 18th March / Prejudices without pride

Los abrazos rotos is finally here!!!!!!!

Movies opening in Zaragoza:

1. Los abrazos rotos. Words are meaningless. SEEING IT.

2. Marley & Me. I don't think so. Not seeing it.

3. Duplicity. I like both actors and it looks like fun so... Seeing it.

4. Wolke Neun. There's nothing about this film that I feel attracted to. Not seeing it .

Nice visits

Richard Jenkins is an amazing, amazing, amazing actor.
How subtle! How great!
Every little move is charged with emotion.
Add a very good script and very good actors for supporting roles and here you have a must-see movie for everyone on Earth.

I'd rather go blind

I really enjoyed this movie.
I'm not sure what else to say.
I didn't feel it as a masterpiece.
But the two hours it lasts flew by.
Beautiful. Better yet Beaugly.
Yes, I really liked it.

If I were a casting director...

... looking for actors to star in an adaptation of On Chesil Beach, the novel by Ian McEwan I'd choose:

-Stanley Tucci as Geoffrey Ponting.

-Rachel Weisz as Violet Ponting.

-Catherine Keener as Marjorie Mayhew.

-Kevin McKidd as Lionel Mayhew.

-Evan Rachel Wood as Florence.

-Paul Dano as Edward.

I think this novel could translate beautifully into a movie. Atonement did.

Opening 13th March / Prejudices without Pride

I've just heard that Sandra Oh (Oh!) appears in Blindness. I had no idea. Love her!!

~~

Movies opening today in Zaragoza:

~~

1. Blindness: Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Sandra Oh (Oh!). I don't care about those bad reviews, I'm definitely Seeing it.

~~

2. Hotel for dogs. How many movies can be based on dogs? This sounds just terrible. Not seeing it.

~~

3. The Burning Plain. Charlize Theron directed by Guillermo Arriaga. Could be pretty mediocre. Anyway... Seeing it.

~~

4. Los muertos van deprisa. Neus Asensi is a good Spanish actress. Anyway Spanish comedies often let me down. So... Probably not seeing it.

~~

5. Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. Movies that seem so smart-y frighten me. Not seeing it.

~~

6. The Visitor. I hope Richard Jenkins to be an inspiraration as an actor. So... Seeing it.
~~
7. Underworld 3. I don't even care what the actual title of this film may be. Nothing to say about this. Not seeing it.
~~
Of course I couldn't stop writing without thinking again of... Los abrazos rotos. Can't wait!!!!!!!

Almodóvar nights

To know all about my mother, talk to her.

Deivith Coast has spent some nights with the Spanish director, and yet he's never appeared in one of his movies. It's a shame! Mr. Pedro is just missing pure talent.
Thanks Deivith. Can´t wait for our broken embrace.

If I were a casting director...

... looking for actors to star in an adaptation of Memoria de mis putas tristes (Memories of my melancholy whores), the short novel by Gabriel García Márquez I'd choose:

Héctor Alterio as the main character (who remains nameless)

Lupe Ontiveros as Rosa Cabarcas

And Yohana Cobo as "Delgadina"

Pa' chulo, chulo, mi pirulo

Some blogs are already trying to predict 2009 Oscar nominees (82nd ceremony). I am braver than any blogger out there so I'll give my prediction for Best Picture of 2010 (83rd ceremony):

Sex and the City 2

I can't wait for this to open

I will get carried away once again!

Watching Watchmen...

... was not as painful as I thought it would. Sometimes it gets so ridiculous it's actually funny. I haven't read the source material but the script and especially the dialogues in the film were terrifying. (Oh my God! I am on Mars!). The performances were really bad in general, I would save Jackie Earle Haley and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Some people praise Billy Crudup's voicework. I saw the dubbed version (sometimes I hate my country) so Billy Crudup looked like a bored (and boring) giant smurf. The embarrasing performances per se were Patrick Wilson's and Malin Akerman's. I thought Laurie actually was an abbreviation of L'Oréal, because she did nothing but shake her hair. And Wilson... Oh my!

The silver linings in this loooooooooong movie were pretty visuals (really good credits!!!) and some wardrobe choices (I'm starting to dress myself like Ozymandias).

But generally I felt ashamed of the movie, like it was trying too hard...

The Minute Maid Men

Tom Ford directs...

... a movie called A single man, based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. It's said to star Julianne Moore and Colin Firth (Julianne + Colin= Good acting). Mad Men production designers are also involved in the film (Tom Ford + Mad Men= Good looks). And rumour has it that Spanish model Jon Kortajarena (below in a Tom Ford campaign) will appear somehow. I want to see this movie already!!

Riding the magic bus

I've just seen Into the Wild.
Loved it.
Emile is a great, great actor.
Sean should direct more often.
I like movies that are so obviously loved by the people working in them.
You can feel their love trying to move you.
It did.

Opening 6th March / Prejudices without Pride

I know Los abrazos rotos doesn't open today but I'm not very excited by any of the movies that do actually open, therefore the picture.
Movies opening today in Zaragoza:
1. Kirschblüten-Hanami: Japan, cherry trees, German movie... Not appealing to me. Anyway they say it's beautiful. Not seeing it.
~~
2. Gran Torino: Clint Eastwood playing himself, no Angelina in sight... Not appealing to me. Not seeing it.
~~
3. Bedtime Stories: I can't even tell why this isn't appealing to me. Not seeing it.
~~
4. Thick as Thieves: Why, oh why? Not seeing it.
~~
5. Watchmen: This ain't too appealing either but everyone is talking about it. I yearn for social acceptance so I'll watch this just to say I hated it and be expelled from society. Seeing it.

I need a shave, or a pie!

Why should anyone talk when they can sing?
I love musicals.
I love Sweeney Todd.
I wanna have a little priest.
I love, love, love Helena Bonham Carter!

Ghosts are back in town

I cried, yes I did, I cried watching Ghost Town. And I'm damned proud. Beautiful movie, very funny ("you were happy you were alive"). Gervais and Kinnear are great, and Téa is just so lovely, adorable, squeezable, lovable, cute and beautiful you just wanna hug her all the time.
Great minor roles performed by very fun actors. A really nice way to spend an evening.

She's a lady

A girl's got more to do than be the way you think a woman should.
Beautiful Nicole.
Talented Nicole.
Oh Nicole!
Creepy John, evil Barbara, baby Christian, gorgeous Viggo, cute Mary-Louise...
Great job all of you.
Lengthy (and bored) thanks Ms. Campion.

Like May Water

A visitor once told me bees liked red balloons around Christmas time.
Embraces don't break when they're blind.

Follow her...

Parlez-moi...

Geniales acteurs!!! Not-so genial film!!!

Drôle et amusant quelque temps

mais non trop catching.

(I'll probably fail French and who's to blame? Movie dubbing!!!)

Bette cares

This picture would be a lot more interesting if it was Margo Channing the one giving out food. She wouldn't smile that much. How lucky should you be if you went to your regular canteen, given you are a soldier, a student or in prison and found there Bette Davis?

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy meal...
