Beginner's luck

As part of my preparation for my trip to London in about two weeks I decided to watch Woody Allen's London trilogy (which I had never seen before), and now I've seen Match Point, and I have loved it. I even liked Scarlett! Emily Mortimer is so lovable, and JRM is great in the role (and quite hot, might I add). A fabulous movie indeed!

Milana bonita

It's hard to talk about Los santos inocentes. It's a remarkable movie. And it provokes very intense feelings. It's one of those films that stay in your memory.

We're both Gemini vegetarians

I love this film sooo much...

Cartography in Dolby Surround

Map of the sounds of Tokyo would definitely win the worst dubbing award ever. Sergi López was uninspired. Rinko is beautiful sometimes. Her character is very interesting. So is the narrator. Cinematography is great. Sound effects are greater. Good movie. Not Coixet's best.

Girl with a permanent pout

2003 was the year for Scarlett Johansson to do slow movies. Girl with a pearl earring has a script at least, which is more than Lost in Translation can say... The cinematography, artistic direction and costume design are very good. And that's pretty much it. Though Colin Firth is very hot and the actors are good in general (with the exception of pouting Scarlett), the movie in general is quite tedious.

You must love her!

Evita is probably the musical with less spoken lines I've ever seen. I always complain of songs in musicals being reiterative and this is exactly the opposite. Madonna is great and what a voice! Her last scene was so emotional and subtle... And the songs are fantastic, and it's nice to see the pre-millenium Banderas... I wish I had musical memory because I'd really like to sing the songs.

Hey waitress!

How to make a movie where sex is endlessly discussed without ever showing a nipple? Hiring Portman and Roberts. It sure wasn't Mike Nichols' idea (Angels in America shows most of what Patrick Wilson has and EVERYTHING Mary-Louise Parker has). And what have Closer and Angels in America in common? They're both fucking masterpieces. No tits required to be provocative, to have the best dialogues ever imagined, the most complex and yet human emotions in just four characters. It is PERFECT.

Be Italia(n)!

Pé loves l'Italia

She's wonderful (though not at her best looking) in Non ti muovere. Great character, great portrayal, great film.

{2+2= winter (it snows in February)}

I have a new-found respect for Gwyneth Paltrow. I always mocked her for being soooo sweet (the reason why I love Amy Adams (I'm a linving oxymoron)) but Proof has proven otherwise. Now I feel like studying Maths or marrying Hope Davis to share the jojoba conditioner.

Happiness makes me smile (Obvious? Ha!)

It's amazing the vastness of the ways to find true happiness: being able to ejaculate, raping two little boys (not your own son! God no! you'd only jerk off...), masturbating to strangers on the phone, being blackmailed by your Russian student and hit by his bride-to-be (?), getting to hear that piece of gossip everyone knows already...
I love movies that push the boundaries of comfort.

. ; . . . ; ; . ; . . ; ; ; . .

It was only a few days ago when I finished reading No One Belongs Here More Than You, a compilation of short stories by Miranda July, and now I've just seen Me and You and Everyone We Know, a movie by Miranda July. When reading the book I first noticed the humor and then the tenderness, a really profound tenderness I wasn't expecting. When watching the movie it is impossible not to notice or not to expect that tenderness, because that first scene is pure and vulnerable tenderness. Every character is so lovable and so carefully portrayed that they can only be described as genuinely human. A simple and yet so deep script, gorgeous visuals... Great. Miranda July is incredibly talented as a writer and as a movie maker.

And by the way, I don't think I'll ever see neither Ice Land, nor Tyrone Street.

What A Luxurious Lively · Experience

How can someone not love WALL·E? How can someone not love WALL·E? This movie not only should have been nominated for best film but also for best actor and actress in a leading role. Wouldn't it have been great that WALL·E became the 4th film to get the five big awards. It certainly would have been fair...

One exclamation point was not enough

Be a doll and love this post

Sex and the City in the fifties

Far from Heaven is really great. Apparently (I don't really recall it) I always found it close to a bad TV film, but if I ever thought that, my eyes are open now. Julianne Moore should have been born around 1915. Life would make a lot more sense.

Thank you, Mr. Von Trier

Antichrist is a wonderful film. At first I was a little afraid because I'm a pussy and I have really bad moments with horror movies, but this movie is not about fear, it is about pain. And if there's something Lars Von Trier understands, that's pain. The whole cast (ehem...) is amazing, though like the jury at Cannes 09 I would stand out Gainsbourg's complex and moving performance. The technical aspects are exquisite as is the brief soundtrack.
It really pisses me off that this movie is going to be remembered by a few moments, that though pivotal to the story, are not its core.
Simply a masterpiece.

The prodigal son

After a longer-than-a-month hiatus (in which I thought I had left this blog for good), I decided to come back. I don't know if I'll be here long, and I know noone cares but this is basically for me and myself (myself being Mr. Coast), so I may be gone like a poof, but it's the travel that's the fun.
