Opening 27th February

This humble blog has as a goal to narrate my cinema adventures. And I happen to live in a town called Zaragoza which is in Spain. So, when talking about the films that are opening this weekend, I'll write about my feelings on those opening here. Which are:

~~

1. Ghost Town (¡Me ha caído el muerto!, lit. The dead has fallen on me(!)) : Though Gervais is not very known (actually it is not known) here in Spain, I'll probably end up watching this film. Kinnear and Leoni seem fun to me, but the trailer is not too appealing. Probably seeing it.

~~

2. Che: Gerrilla. No extrange translations for this one. Apparently I'd be eager to see it if I had watched the first one. I may pay a visit to my videoclub to see what Benicio can do. Probably seeing it.

~~

3. In the name of the King. I don't know what to say. This film opens in four of seven cinemas we have in Zaragoza, but a movie like I'm not there is actually not here and never has been, because it never arrived. Why? I don't even want to guess. Not seeing it.

~~

4. Parlez-moi de la pluie. (Photo) This is the film I'm more interested this weekend. A small French feature that has received some good reviews. Seeing it.

~~

5. Julia. Good: Tilda!!!! Not-so-good: I don't feel the urge to run to the cinema. Bad: Loooooooong movie. Probably not seeing it.

~~

6. The Pink Panther 2. Because, apparently, the first one was not enough. I mean, this has to be bad. It doesn't even have Beyoncé. Poor Steve Martin. He can be funny, as he was at the Oscars but he was terrible in the first part of this. It also stars Emily Mortimer which is always cute to look at. Not seeing it.

Once in a lifetime

Once in a lifetime. Thot's how often anyone should watch the movie. I absolutely hate to dislike it because my worshipping for Beyoncé goes beyond reason, but I had it bad here. There are times that the script looks like it's spoofing the actual movie. In general it would be good material for a bad TV movie. Most of the performances are horrific (Brody, you should be ashamed) and there is just a lot of nonsense about the characters and the general storyline. Thank God it's not a tough movie to follow because Darnell Martin certainly tries to make it impossible to understand. Although, as I am a very positive person (...) I'll say that Jeffrey Wright is quite right (too much Sex and the City over the years) in his character and my beloved Beyoncé is actually good at times.
The music is of course marvelous but that's just opportunistic (with the exception of Once in a lifetime, of course). So basically this movie is only apt for Beyoncé lovers. So maybe I'll watch it again... fastforwarding the parts where she doesn't appear.

At last!!

At last my lonely days are over, because tonight I'm watching Cadillac Records. (Thanks for understanding my ununderstandingbiltiy, David) Oooh, now what you're waiting for? Oooh, the one that I adore...

Some thoughts later on...

WOW (aka Oscars Night)

The Oscars are done and I have more doubts than Sister Aloysius. How many times can you fall in love with Hugh Jackman on the same night? How self-absorbed can I be? Not to brag or anything but I was dedicated the two first awards. I am a Spanish actor and a proud homosexual. After watching The Wrestler I was hoping Marisa would win but Penélope took it home. I'm glad as well. She's great in the role and the speech nearly brought me to tears. Again I nearly cried with Dustin Lance Black's speech. Two awards, potential tears and no tissues... How sweet can Sarah Jessica Parker's voice be? She was beautiful, but she had some kind of tumour in a Broderick-shape. Weird. What was that thing Philip Seymour Hoffman had on his head? Weirder. Why didn't Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman actually kiss? How can you be as cute as Anne playing Nixon? Not even Amy Adams would have topped that sweetness. How incredibly talented is Beyoncé? Why Freida Pinto's dress had that ugly sleeve? Was Jennifer Anniston in a sudden rush when she realized who was sitting front row? Did Angelina inappropriately touched Brad when Jen was looking? Did Jack Black noticed some of this? Did Natalie Portman suffer while presenting? Why every single frame of WALL·E makes me love the world? Why didn't Matilda received his daddy's award? Why did Reese Witherspoon look like she was high? Why were both Penn and Winslet so sober yet deliciously happy when they won? Who will be nominated next year? Is it time to start wondering already? Who will host? Oh my God!!
I have such doubts.

Wrestling with Aries

Amazing movie.
Beautiful and painful performances.
Aronofsky nails it again.
I feel like hugging Tomei.
I've got no more words.

Golden Knights Night

Tonight I'm watching the Oscars for the first time in my not-so-short-now life. Before the awards I'm seeing The Wrestler, so maybe I won't be going for Penn and Adams after all...
Here are my choices in some categories:
Picture: The Reader
Director: Stephen Daldry
Lead actress: Kate Winslet
Lead actor: Sean Penn
Supporting actress: Amy Adams
Supporting actor: Heath Ledger
Original Screenplay: WALL·E
Adapted Screenplay: The Reader
Cinematography: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Art Direction: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Costume Design: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Editing: Milk
Foreign Film: Entre les murs (the only one I could see)
Score: Milk
Song: Down to Earth
Animated: WALL·E
It's easy to suppose they're not predictions (if they were, there would be a lot more Slumdog around here).
Let's see what happens...
