Opening 25th September / Prejudices without Pride

Mourning day!! The September Issue hasn't opened in Zaragoza... I've lost my will to live. Let's hope some of the movies opening today bring it back to me:

1. The Informant!: Great to begin with, I'm really looking forward to see this! Therefore and evidently... Seeing it.

2. Ashes of time: Though reconciled with Willy Wonkar through My blueberry nights, I might be a little sceptic towards this film but considering that my better half suffers of a cronic condition called Wonkarwaiism I'm... Seeing it.

3. Taking Woodstock: Ang Lee. Emile Hirsch. With long hair. Three powerful reasons. Seeing it.

4. El secreto de sus ojos: Possibly Mexican contender for the Oscars. Anyway, there's too much to see this weekend to be bothered by appetisers. Not seeing it.

5. Jennifer's Body: This is quality cinema on the other hand... I love Amanda and with hopes that the film is funnier than scarier I'm... Seeing it.

6. Surrogates: Though the premise might look appealing, it will most likely end up being disappointing. Not seeing it.

7. Oceanworld 3D: This is the documentary that has opened instead The September Issue. Adding insult to the injury Belén Rueda voices a fucking turtle! Not seeing it!

If I wasn't mortally wounded by Anna Wintour's absence, this would be a great weekend...

Opening 18th September / Prejudices without Pride

I still have to see last weeks opening so I'm glad to say only two (!) films have opened today in Zaragoza.

1. Inglorious Basterds: Frankly I'm not that excited about this film, I'm not sure why. What I'm excited about is it has opened in Original Version!! I love Aragonia!! Seeing it.

2. Flores Negras: The trailer is quite boring... And I'm mad at Spanish Cinema for the Oscar contenders. I liked Coixet's but Almodóvar's is a billion times better! Not seeing it.

Very nice weekend (last one before classes...).

Opening 11th September / Prejudices without Pride

This last Wednesday a new movie house opened in Zaragoza, yay! (we have 8, now) with promises of wider variety, let's see:

1. Owl and the Sparrow: It won a lot of festivals and it's one of those elusive films that are not dubbed. Good for Aragonia! Maybe seeing it.

2. District 9: Oh yes! I loved its publicity campaign and seeing it was a revolution in the States I'm curious. Seeing it.

3. El último guión: A documentary about Buñuel ( Aragonese himself). I'm shamed to say I have seen none of his films, so it's probably pointless watching a documentary about them. Not seeing it.

4. Gordos: The second film by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (who directed Azuloscurocasinegro) looks really good. Seeing it.

5. My bloody Valentine: This looks scary (no, thanks) and not very good (no, thanks). It's interesting to see it opened in 5 out of 8 movie places (!). Not seeing it.

6. Bandslam: Vanessa Hudgens is still alive? I didn't know. In case she's only a zombie who wants to eat brains I'll have to say... Not seeing it.

Interesting weekend (just my luck is the one I'm leaving for London (oh yeah!!)).

Opening 3rd July / Prejudices without Pride

The movies opening today (or yesterday if you're called Ice age 3) in Zaragoza are:

1. Okuribito (Departures): Foreign language Oscar and it seems a moving film. And it's so cool to say you loved the last movie by Yôjirô Takita... Seeing it.

2. Ice age: Dawn of the dinosaurs: I saw the trailer for this before Wolverine and two people actually died of laughter. It's a lie but they laughed a lot and I couldn't figure out why. It was sooooo not funny. Not seeing it.

3. The last house on the left: Haven't seen the original and not planning on seeing the remake. Not seeing it.

4. Pagafantas: The first movie by the director of TV hilarious show Vaya semanita. I can't believe I'm saying this about a movie that stars Michel Brown but... Seeing it.

5. Tres dies amb la família: Won some awards at Málaga festival and I have some traction towards it. Seeing it.

A busy weekend it seems. Good thing it's summer already...

Opening 26th June / Prejudices without Pride

The movies opening the last weekend of the first half of the year in Zaragoza are:

1. LOL (Laughing Out Loud): French comedy about technologies isolating us instead of connecting us ( I guess, I really have no idea). Last French comedy I remember didn't really do it for me. Still... Maybe seeing it.

2. St. Trininan's: Rupert Everett dressed as a woman, some Bond girl and Colin Firth... No reasons to love it, no reasons to hate it. Not seeing it.

3. Tetro: Coppola's (the father) latest film. It opened at Cannes and it stars Spanish actresses Maribel Verdú (Jai ho!) and Carmen Maura (yay!). Seeing it.

4. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Megan Fox's breasts and huge robots fighting each other. For the second time. Not seeing it.

Not a great weekend but I really want to see Tetro so... yay!

Opening 19th June / Prejudices without Pride

It's been ages since I've been in a movie theater (since Coraline), but the rare conjunction of exams and not-so-interesting films has wanted it that way. Will the openings of this weekend change my DVD dependance? Let's see:

1. Zack and Miri make a Porn: This looks fun and Elizabeth Banks is so lovely... Probably seeing it.

2. Cher Ami: Spanish animation based on WWI (!?). This is too much for me. Not seeing it.

3. Inkheart: I haven't read Cornelia Funke's books (but I have an edition of The wizard of Oz which is introduced by her) but I tend to dislike youth-books made youth-films. Not seeing it.

4. New in Town: What is going on with Renée Zellweger? She used to be so cool (stop laughing Deivith!). Chicago, Cold Mountain, Down with Love... Why is she playing this Kate Hudson role?!?! Not seeing it.

5. Le premier jour du reste de ta vie: French drama about a family (Il y a longtemps que je t'aime 2?). Looks kinda good. Maybe seeing it.

6. Obsessed: I know it's bad. But it's BEYONCÉ. And if Beyoncé was in The Pink Panther 3, you'd see me down at the movies, waiting to go in. I'm OBSESSED with BEYONCÉ. Seeing it.

Not a great evening but it's almost end of exams so I'm loving it!!

Opening 29th May / Prejudices without Pride

Last movies of May!!! (June looks good)

1. Henry Poole is Here: I don't know what my feelings are but I know they're not too good. Probably not seeing it.

2. Man on Wire: Oscar + Original Version= Seeing it.

3. Män som hatar Kvinnor (Los hombres que no amaban a las mujeres): The novel has been an editorial boom but I haven't read it. I don't know what to do. Probably not seeing it.

4. The Uninvited: I tend to hate horror movies because they scare me too much (I had trouble sleeping after Mullholand Dr., not to mention an actual terror movie). Not seeing it.

5. The Boat that Rocked: This looks good. I hope I like it. Seeing it.

Not a bad weekend after all...

Opening 22nd May / Prejudices without Pride

Films that opened yesterday in Zaragoza:

1. Good: WWII once again... Not seeing it.

2. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian: This is very appealing for one single reason AMY ADAMS. Still, it looks terrible. Not seeing it.

3. Vratné lahve: What is this? I like lesser known movies to arrive here but I tend to like it more when I have heard about them. Not seeing it.

4. Pranzo di Ferragosto: Italian movie about what to do with old people on holidays. Is leaving them at a gas station demodé? Probably not seeing it.

Another boring weekend I'll spend watching Nine's trailer.

viernes, 15 de mayo de 2009

Opening 15th May / Prejudices without pride

The movies opening in Zaragoza today are:

1. Angels & Demons: Never saw The Da Vinci Code, but I read the book and it was entertaining crap. Crap nevertheless. Not seeing it.

2. Cosas insignificantes: Mexican-Spanish film I've heard nice things about. No butterflies in my stomach anyway. Probably not seeing it.

3. Salt of this sea: Some movie I never heard about. I have not an opinion. Probably not seeing it.

4. Fighting: This looks plainly embarrasing. Not seeing it.

Baaaaad weekend. I'll stay at home watching Nine's trailer over and over and over again.

Opening 30th April / Prejudices without Pride

Movies opening today in Zaragoza:

1. 17 again: Do I need to type anything at all? I'm a petulant pseudo-critic. Not seeing it.

2. The Young Victoria: I'm hoping this is not The Duchess 2 because I am Seeing it.

3. La vergüenza: Won Best Movie at the Málaga Festival and it stars Alberto San Juan (with whom I have a picture!!!). Maybe seeing it.

4. Un buen hombre: A Spanish thriller I'm not interested in. Not seeing it.

5. Zweiohrüken (Un conejo sin orejas): A German romantic comedy. Looks cute. Maybe seeing it.

6. Wolverine: Even petulant pseudo-critics have weaknesses. Hugh Jackman is mine. Seeing it.

Not a bad weekend after all...

viernes, 24 de abril de 2009

Opening 24th April / Prejudices without Pride

Eight (!) films open today in Zaragoza.

1. 25 kilates: A Spanish comedy I had never heard about. Not seeing it.

2. Let the right one in: YES!!! When we thought we had to wait for the DVD... Seeing it.

3. El niño pez: Lesbians not publicited... Ellen should be complaining. Not seeing it.

4. Fuga de cerebros: Brains of the writers have really gone away. One of the jokes in the trailer is about fingers up an ass... Not seeing it.

5. Smother: Diane Keaton in yet another motherly comic role. Ehem... Not seeing it.

6. Ponyo on the cliff: Still debating in my head whether this would be worth it. Probably not seeing it.

7. Rudo y Cursi: Gael García Bernal's beauty can make me watch some things. Not this film. Not seeing it.

8. The International: Clive & Naomi. Thriller. Mixed feelings. Probably seeing it.

Opening 17th April / Prejudices without Pride

This particular Friday I was hoping to see released:
1. Let the right one in
2. The flight of the red balloon
None of them have opened in Zaragoza. Jai Ho! We're such lucky Spaniards!

The films we can see are:

1. Race to Witch Mountain, which looks quite terrible (The Rock???). Not seeing it.

2. State of play, which should be great if the universe doesn't wish my funeral. Seeing it.

3. Bill, in which Aaron Eckhart looks gorgeus and Jessica Alba keeps pretending she's an actress. Not seeing it.

Bad, bad, bad, bad weekend!!!!

Opening Easter / Prejudices without pride

The movies that opened in Zaragoza while I was in Paris and Denmark (sort of) are:

1. Al final del camino: Spanish comedy exploiting the fact that the two main actors were a couple in a well-known TV series. Dealing with El Camino de Santiago. Not seeing it.
~~
2. Control: A 2007 (!) movie I don't want to see. Anyway Davigüi will drag me to the theatre. Seeing it.
~~
3. Dragonball Evolution: I remember when I loved Justin Chatwin because he appeared in Lost (in the great-airport-scene episode), now I'll have to pretend I don't know who he is. Not seeing it.
~~
4. Les femmes de l'ombre: What is this? Haven't heard of it ergo I have no prejudices. Not seeing it.
~~
5. Faubourg 36: I loved Les Choristes, but this doesn't look good. Not seeing it.
~~
6. Knowing: Another ridiculous movie with Nicolas Cage. Does this mean the next one will be real? He does true movies from time to time, so when is our next Weather Man coming? Not seeing it.

viernes, 3 de abril de 2009

Opening 3rd April / Prejudices without pride

Movies opening today in Zaraagoza:

1. Fast & Furious: Was this necessary? I don't think so. Not seeing it.

2. The Duchess: Keira Knightley wears corset again... I'm probably loving it. Seeing it.

3. Deception: Bad reviews are powerful (sometimes). They were in this case at least. Two gorgeus actors and yet... Not seeing it.

4. Monsters vs Aliens: When animation doesn't have Pixar or Disney stamped on it, I don't trust it. Not seeing it.

Opening 27th March/ Prejudices without pride

The films that opened (past tense as I fell a little behind) on 27th March (International day of Theatre, by the way) in Zaragoza are:

1. Ben X: Weird movie it seems. I had never heard of it. Nothing in it says: "Go to the movies" in a sort of ghostly voice so... Not seeing it.

2. Confessions of a shopaholic: I'll probably like this movie but it kills me to spend money when all I'm going to do is bitching about dubbing. Probably not seeing it.

3. The secret life of bees: This has "I'll make you cry" written all over it. I love that in a movie. If I don't cry I'll probably hate this. Seeing it.

4. Mentiras y gordas: This is a Spanish film where they have chosen the worst actors from the worst Spanish TV series. The plot deals with drugs and love. Ehem... Not seeing it.

5. Retorno a Hansala: Film about emigration/inmigration. Got nominated to three Goyas. Anyway I don't feel called. Not seeing it.

6. Street Fighter: The legend of Chun-Li: Why something like this opens here and not The flight of the red balloon or Un conte de Nöel? It feels so unfair to people who expect something other than blood and Kristin Kreuk's boobs from a movie. Not seeing it.

7. Traitor: I tend to dislike films where guns are so publicly dispalyed. Gives to me a sense of "Stallone is behind this" that I don't like a bit. Not seeing it.

Not a very good weekend...

Opening 27th February

This humble blog has as a goal to narrate my cinema adventures. And I happen to live in a town called Zaragoza which is in Spain. So, when talking about the films that are opening this weekend, I'll write about my feelings on those opening here. Which are:

~~

1. Ghost Town (¡Me ha caído el muerto!, lit. The dead has fallen on me(!)) : Though Gervais is not very known (actually it is not known) here in Spain, I'll probably end up watching this film. Kinnear and Leoni seem fun to me, but the trailer is not too appealing. Probably seeing it.

~~

2. Che: Gerrilla. No extrange translations for this one. Apparently I'd be eager to see it if I had watched the first one. I may pay a visit to my videoclub to see what Benicio can do. Probably seeing it.

~~

3. In the name of the King. I don't know what to say. This film opens in four of seven cinemas we have in Zaragoza, but a movie like I'm not there is actually not here and never has been, because it never arrived. Why? I don't even want to guess. Not seeing it.

~~

4. Parlez-moi de la pluie. (Photo) This is the film I'm more interested this weekend. A small French feature that has received some good reviews. Seeing it.

~~

5. Julia. Good: Tilda!!!! Not-so-good: I don't feel the urge to run to the cinema. Bad: Loooooooong movie. Probably not seeing it.

~~

6. The Pink Panther 2. Because, apparently, the first one was not enough. I mean, this has to be bad. It doesn't even have Beyoncé. Poor Steve Martin. He can be funny, as he was at the Oscars but he was terrible in the first part of this. It also stars Emily Mortimer which is always cute to look at. Not seeing it.
